Apple uses two primary key mechanisms on recent MacBook laptops. Knowing which mechanism your laptop utilizes ensures a perfect keycap and hinge clip match.

Keycaps and hinge clips are not interchangeable between butterfly and scissor mechanisms, even if the keycap looks identical. Always cross-reference your MacBook model number (e.g. A2289) and release year before purchasing.
